SPECIALIZED INDUSTRY APPLICATION...

Solve it using Bimba's Pneu-Turn Feedback Rotary Actuator...Pneu-Turn Feedback Rotary Actuator

Problem: The application requires the throttling of a butterfly valve for process control. By throttling a valve, the flow can be controlled. Such applications are typically found when initially pumping down a system, or if there is a need for an exhaust damper. It is important to know the position of the valve, not only to control it, but so it can retain flexibility to suit each application. Typical ways of controlling a butterfly valve is with either a pneumatic actuator, or an electronic stepper motor arrangement, mounted on the valve.

Solution: Bimba's Pneu-Turn Position Feedback Pneumatic Rotary Actuator (Model PTF) coupled to the valve provides an outstanding solution. In conjunction with Bimba's Pneumatic Control System (Model PCS), Bimba's PTF provides continuous shaft position sensing. The PCS requires a 0 to 10 VDC command signal; a 1-volt change in the command signal is equivalent to 18 degrees of rotary motion. Advantages over conventional stepper motors are that there aren't any physical steps, providing an advanced degree of control.

TECHNICAL TIP...

Locked Cylinder Using Pilot Operated Check Valves...

Some cylinder applications require that the piston be locked at rest so that it cannot be moved by an external force. Three position valves can do this, but leaks in the airline connections may cause the cylinder to creep. Using pilot operated check valves directly at the cylinder port will lock the air in the cylinder, as long as the pilots are off. When extending and retracting the cylinder we use the opposite cylinder line to pilot the check. For example, we label the rod end of the cylinder "A" and the opposite end "B", and put pilot check valves at both A & B. When we want to extend the rod, the air from the directional control valve is routed to the "B" port of the cylinder. It must also be routed to the PILOT port of the "A" check valve in order for the cylinder to move. While retracting the rod, we route the air from the DCV to the "A" port and the PILOT port of the "B" check valve.

For more information regarding your particular application, please contact our technical support.

*our pilot operated check valve suppliers include Norgren, Deltrol, Telepneumatic, Pisco & Pneumadyne
