Cimrex
and IAI are talking.
Cimrex
(Beijer Electronics) operator interfaces and Intelligent Actuator's
servo
controllers are now a communications item.
From
the Cimrex 5, a two line x 16 alphanumeric display, to the
Cimrex 91, a 10.5" TFT color touch screen, and from the
IAI Robo Cylinder to the SCARA robot, access to all data is
now possible. "Simple" is how Walter Goedicke, IAI
technical support engineer, described his experience programming
the Cimrex 30. The appropriate memory addresses are used in
the screen development tool and the rest is seamless. The
ability to monitor or change position, speed, acceleration
and push percentage data as well as timers, counters, flags
and other data storage registers (Intelligent Actuator's X-Sel)
is now available. Dual driver capability allows talking to
two different devices simultaneously, and recipe storage and
download help make the most of the controller's memory.
Strapped
for communication ports on your PLC? Simply connect your computer
to the standard RS422 port on your Cimrex and select transparent
mode in the software, and you will be able to program, monitor,
and debug through the same port as the interface while the
screen remains fully functional. Connectivity to other devices,
and access to open networking schemes, such as Ethernet, will
define automation equipment in the future. Cimrex is here
now!

Quick
Connect/Disconnect Coupling Sizing
Quick
connect/disconnect couplings, used extensively on air lines
that connect to your machinery, are in many cases, undersized.
The typical quick disconnect coupling has a bore/body size
of ¼" or less, and many times are attached to
hoses up to ½" ID. Customers use this standard
size for interchangeability of various components that are
used throughout the plant. Unfortunately, using an incorrect
size will cause machines to operate inconsistantly or too
slowly. OEMs in particular should supply a coupling of the
correct size with their equipment to assure the customer is
providing the proper amount of air flow to the machine.
Quick
connect/disconnect couplings are available from Hansen
and Knotts,
with industrial interchange body styles up to ¾".
